Personally, I have really brittle and wavy hair with tons of split ends, I went to a ';regular'; salon several times, but it doesn't do me any good and the price is a bit steep. A friend recommended a Dominican Salon and ask for hot oil, it was wonderful and the price is reasonable.
So here's what I think: if you want to get like a haircut or a highlight, go to a regular salon, but if you want anything that has to do with conditioning or straightning/perm, African-American salons are great for that.
(It was kinda weird the first time I went there, but the hair dressers were really nice when I told them a friend recommended there.)Should a white girl with really curly hair to go to an African American hair salon or a regular salon?
You just need to find a hairdresser that specializes in curly hair, it doesn't matter if they are AA or not. My ex-roomate had super curly hair and she called around until she found someone who specializes in curly hair.
Even though stylists have to learn about different textures--that doesn't mean that they are good at all of them. It won't hurt to ask for a curl specialist.Should a white girl with really curly hair to go to an African American hair salon or a regular salon?
It doesn't matter... both types of salons do both types of hair.
oh so ';african american'; salon's arent regular? wow okay , speaking as a stylist, hair is hair, there isnt seperate training for european hair and black hair. I dont mean to go hard on you , because you probably didnt mean anything by how you phrased your question. I just get annoyed by things such as this, and we are all guilty of it, for example when we are talking to someone of the same race and refer to a different race we have to say it , ';that black guy'; but if we are refering to someone of the same race we say ';that guy'; it just makes me mad. Im sorry had to vent.
Race is a factor when choosing a salon. but I think Comfort is more important. I am mixed heritage (1/2 African American 1/2 Dominican) with long soft curly hair. I go to an African American salon because that is where I feel comfortable and confident getting my hair done. Beyond race and comfort is HAIR in general. YOU are a fellow Curly top...which means...like me...and many others you need special services for YOUR CURLS not your RACE. You should try a salon that SPECIALIZES in CURLS like Ouidad (caucasian) or Miss Jessies (African Americn). Either way - it's about CURLS. Here are some links for fun! Good luck!

These helped me tame my mane!!!
its so much easier to go bald
go to an white hair salon. Diffrent races have diffrent hair, gentically. So it would make more sence to go to someone who knows your hair type. You wouldn't go to a salesman to get surgery done.
I don't think it matters which salon you go to as long as you get a hair stylist that works with all hair types. Find out how long he or she has been doing hair, find one that has done hair for quite a few years and not a new person on board. Good Luck. I wish I had your curly hair, I am actually going tomorrow to get a spiral perm. I have to pay for my curls.
depends how curly it is. i've never thought of that, but there are no african american salons in my town, so i couldnt if i wanted to anyway. But maybe if she has naturaly permy hair.
if its realllllllllllllly curly go to an african american salon
regular salons dont know how to work with curly hair
i have curly hair myself and i always get bad haircuts
She sure can. A professional Hair Stylist whether African American or White, should be trained on all types of hair before they can get a license. Now whether the styles are cute or not is something to be concerned about. Just explain what type of styles interest you.
The majority of African American Hair stylist Are the Best anyways!
NO, [im white too] just in case you walk in and look stupid becuz they say they cant help your hair
we dont want more stupid white girl steriotypes
It depends what you want done. If you want special treatments like hot oil...etc...I would try a salon that caters to those needs...whether it be black or white.
I would also strongly recommend getting to know your hair stylists, and communicating to them how your hair works and what EXACTLY you want done to it.
good luck girl!
well if ur hair is thick and uncontrolable then do go to an africian amercian salon they will help u better there good luck
Any salon will do. When you are trained to become a cometologist you are trained in all types of hair. Why some ones gets a bad haircut is because of communication. You need to let them know what your inch is and have them show you what theirs is. You'd be surprised at the difference. Paraphrase back this will ensure they are clear on what you want. It really doesn't matter how long someone has been in the business we all need to pass the State Board Exam
go to a dominican salon they're the best. my hair is curly too, im dominican and white salons just cant deal with my hair and the fee will be high, or you could always do it yourself, rollers, dryer, blowdryer, done.
i am white and have curly hair too. i usually just go to a regular salon.
I don't think that it will matter.
i went to one once and they looked at me like i was stupid. they cut my hair anyway
