Does Tanning Salons Hire African Americans?

I am Puerto Rican and African American and was just wandering can I get a job at a tanning salon?? I have tons of customer service experience and am very well qualified , the only problem is I think me being darker skinned, I might not portray the look their looking for. However, i do work @ Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch and is considered one of the best looking girls there (sorry if it seems like im bragging thats really not my intentions). So I guess you can say I have a look that can appeal to all kind of people!! I actually really do go tanning to get a more bronze complexion!! So what do you guys think? Do I have a chance? Please no obvious answers, just asking for a opinionDoes Tanning Salons Hire African Americans?
Of course-- in America they can't discriminate against race. Equal opportunity employer.

  • Why do Asians make fun of us Americans so much? In the sushi restaurants, in the nail salons...?

It seems like they are always really rude with their gossiping etc. Talking about the customers. I sat at a sushi bar once with a friend, and was watching the sushi chefs behind the counter staring at my friend and snickering to themselves. And the women at the nail salons are ALWAYS talking smack about the customers. And lets not forget the dry cleaners.............

What is it??? Why do they hate us?Why do Asians make fun of us Americans so much? In the sushi restaurants, in the nail salons...?
Im an asian myself (Malay)...but i dont do that to americans or to anyone else. Thats just very rude.

Its normally the chinese and japanese are doing that alot. I dont know why.

I myself dont even like Chinese people. And sometimes i feel like they are talking bout me in their chinese language and giggles. Why do Asians make fun of us Americans so much? In the sushi restaurants, in the nail salons...?
Well, we make fun of them all the time. All throughout elementary school I remember kids pulling their eyes to look squinty and ';ching chong';-ing, and really... Now that I'm older, age hasn't changed that, only made it less frequent.

Why wouldn't they make fun of us in return?

It does make me insecure, though. o.o
in all honesty, havent you ever made fun of the asian people like in a chinese restaurant or something, ie making fun of their accent or something, truth is asians get petty kicks and giggle just like us lol
    Just being racist.

But it's ok to be racist towards white people....

鈻撯枒鈻?Why do americans go to tanning salons ? 鈻撯枒鈻?

In my country nobody does that !鈻撯枒鈻?Why do americans go to tanning salons ? 鈻撯枒鈻?
Because their just dying for skin cancer. :)

jk, but they just do it because they feel that tanned

skin is unique, and some white people tend to try to tan

though they can't and get sunburned in the end,

and others tan but look orange as a carrot.

Apparently their just not satisfied with their skin.鈻撯枒鈻?Why do americans go to tanning salons ? 鈻撯枒鈻?
I am Russian, and I can tell you for sure - so many young Russian girls go to tanning salons, especially those living in the capital. So Americans are not the only ones:) For some people having a nice tanned skin is kind of fashionable, a sign of health, prosperity.

Well, I don't understand why some of them tan all year round, it's harmful and everybody know it but how can one explain it to a girl of 15-18?
wow way to stereotype Melissa A. and no not all americans are rich thank you very much. it amazing how people automatically assume because we are american that we are rich. many of us are struggling paycheck to paycheck to pay our bills .

but anyways a lot of americans go tanning because having tan, even skin looks good. end of story. i am american and i've never gone to a tanning salon nor am i rich. but i do tan outside in the summer just because it looks good to be tan. don't hate because your jealous melissa.
In America, an essential part of being beautiful and looking good is having dark, tanned, skin.

These are not my beliefs and I do not believe that is true. But as media upon other things depict.. Tan is an essential characteristic in beauty.

Once again, not my views. Not saying I don't think tanned skin looks good, because on some people it looks very good, but it is not required on everyone to look pretty and handsome, some people really pull off the pale and untanned look and probably won't look as good if they went and tanned, and I can provide examples of this if asked of me.
I don't understand either, I am Chinese and asians regard paleness as pure, flawless beauty...but living in America, its different.

    I think its different factors:

    1. tanned skin = people who are active and go outdoors, not shutins who stay indoors all their life, the ';beach look';

    2. the media has a lot of tanned actors/actresses

    3. tanned skin is linked is sensuality, something foreign, not normal pale...like italian or middle eastern skin...
To lalalyssa: Why'd would YOU assume that the other ';Melissa'; person is jealous?

But to answer the question, it's because a lot of Americans think that tan, dark skin looks good. Personally, I think it looks gross, and that pale (but not sickly) skin is more refreshing. To each their own.
Because Americans are sometimes rich, decadent and pampered and not very bright.
Because they weren't blessed with a nice skin color tone????

Can africn americans get a tan other than from the sun as in like a tanning salon if so how is it ?

Yes I've been to one already. Can africn americans get a tan other than from the sun as in like a tanning salon if so how is it ?
Yes, African Americans can go to the tanning salon. Those with lighter skin tones that is. If you have honey or light tan skin it will darken to like pecan brown. If you already have a light brown shade I wouldn't recommend tanning. Can africn americans get a tan other than from the sun as in like a tanning salon if so how is it ?
Yes blacks can tan, but being a black woman myself wouldn't see why, I love my skin tone
Just being nigro race you can get a tan too

    AND SUN DAMAGE!

THIS DOES NOT PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SKIN IN TANNING SALON! ANY RACE CAN GET A TAN
Yep we tan, our skin pigement starts out (of course) darker but its pretty much the same. You get a sun kissed look, just like you just came off of vaca.
Very very slightly. Tans are from a buildup of melanin. Melanin is skin pigment. Obviously black people have skin pigmentation. So why wouldn't a ton of sun make them a tiny bit darker?
Yes, they can go to the tanning salon, but then it would just make them look South Indian. I don't really see the point of doing that.

I want a haircut like victoria beckham or rihanna. What salons can cut african american hair like that in ATL?

I am african american and i am trying to grow out of a relaxer (back to my natural hair) so it has to be a salon that uses no chemicals, but i also want a salon that can cut my hair properly (with razors, as well as scissors). Any referrals?

for Victoia- she has naturally straight hair so its a easy to care for style for her- she just needs frequent trims to maintain the look

for Rihanna- its straightened and flat ironedI want a haircut like victoria beckham or rihanna. What salons can cut african american hair like that in ATL?
If you're African American your best bet is to find yourself a great Dominican salon and I bet ya they'll give you the results you are looking for !!!! Your hair will also be silky smooth and light!!! Good Luck!!!
If you have natural hair DO NOT use a Dominican hairstylist!!

They may know about frying relaxed hair but they know nothing about styling tightly curl natural hair. Stick with a sistah that knows our texture and the way our hair behaves.
I dont know of any sorry but i just wanted to say that i think its a really good idea because that cutt is like springs biggest look!

  • Are there any beauty salons that specialize in african american hair in Tacoma, Wa.?

I'm looking myself for a salon. I wear a weave and I'm very picky about who touches my head. I've been to Hair Studio Plus and they gave me a great relaxer and they are very nice. But the salon atmosphere is a little on the ghetto side. When I go to the salon I like to feel like I'm at the spa and you will not get that feeling with them. But other than that, they are the best I've found so far. Good LuckAre there any beauty salons that specialize in african american hair in Tacoma, Wa.?

How do i know which salons start dreads for african americans?

i live in edison new jersey 08837How do i know which salons start dreads for african americans?
i'd go on craigslist and post that you're looking for a place and also whenever you see someone with dreads in your neighborhood, ask them where they get their hair done and if the person started it for you.

oh and you can ask different salons. hairdressers often are friends with one another and shouldn't have a problem referring you. and like the first guy said, anyplace that does braids will probably do dreds. How do i know which salons start dreads for african americans?
    You call and ask. Most braiding places do them. Just walk right in and say ';Hey, do you guys do dreads?';
    You call them and ask.

Are there African-American style beauty salons in Japan?

I am moving to Japan in 2 months and I have twist. I dont want to get dreads but if there are none I may have to get dreads. I need to know if there are salons in Nagoya, Japan that do braids or twist? Are there African-American style beauty salons in Japan?
Are there black ppl in Japan? No.Are there African-American style beauty salons in Japan?
Sorry to disappoint you but no =[

But you can get a sewn in weave if that's your thing. I just don't know if there are any in Nagoya
i think they have a military base thats where most black people get there hair done. use the web and type in if they have any black people that do hair.
well, just some advice. most japanese never see black ppl be4 so dont be surprised if there r some prejudice toward u
japan aww man you couldnt have picked a worse country to be black in. well its okay if your not going outside of your room
I can'te tell you about hair salons but you can learn how to do braids and twists yourself. Even if you get dreads you are going to have to learn how to take care of them and retwist the base.

    Here is a good video:

Once you get the hang of if, it's really not that hard. Takes a few hours but then you can keep them in for a couple weeks. Very low maintenance with regular remoisturizing. I am the most style challenged person ever but I recently learned how to cornrow my own hair. You don't have to get dreads if you don't want to. BUT if you feel like even lower maintenance hair and can't find any Black hair salon in Nagoya, the following a how to take care of dreads by yourself.

This is a post straight from someone who had dreads at http://nappturality.com. Highly recommend that site for more tips about how to take care of natural Black hair. There may even be someone there who lives in Nagoya who can tell you about a natural hair salon there.

{{{{1. you can start your locs and maintain them by yourself. you can start them with 2-strand twists, palm-rolled coils, braids, or freeform from an afro. however you choose to start them, make sure the base of the loc is about the thickness of a pencil. if they are too thin, you'll experience breakage down the road. if they are too thick, it will take longer for them to matt and loc and the individual locs will be heavier as they mature, which can cause stress on your scalp years down the road.

    2. you do not have to forgo cleansing your scalp to form locs. your scalp should be shampooed 1-2 times a week just to keep sebum and perspiration washed away. don't worry about coils or twists unraveling. redo the ones that become undone or just leave them alone and let them loc that way.

    3. choose a residue-free shampoo. you won't want to use conditioning shampoos that leave your hair coated, nor will you want to use leave-in conditioners, as they attract lint and dirt, which will embed in the locs and make them dirty and difficult to get totally clean. your focus should be on cleansing your scalp. a light, natural oil smoothed throughout your locs should be an adequate conditioner. avoid wax, shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, pretty much anything that is solid at room temperature. it will create a nasty buildup within your locs that will never come out, no matter how much clarifying you do. trust me, i've seen it, and what you'll end up with are clean-looking locs on the outside, but nasty ooze from product buildup on the inside of each loc, which will make them feel heavy in time. clean locs should feel light and spongy, regardless of texture.

    4. some people have good results with liquid castile soap as a shampoo. just be mindful to dilute really well because these soaps can leave residue if you aren't careful.

    5. personally, i would use a nonsoap cleansing method like a baking soda paste with a couple of drops of oil added and rubbed into the scalp, then rinsed away. or green clay, which is a good skin cleanser and will wash away easily under a steady stream of water.

    6. buy a nice scarf (satin, cotton, silk, whatever) to keep your hair wrapped at night or when you are lounging around or in windy weather when dust is blowing around to prevent lint and debris from becoming trapped in your locs, as you won't be able to brush or comb or even pick out debris as easily as you would with loose hair.

    7. be patient with the formation of your locs. if you have multiple textures on your head, as many people do, you may notice that parts of your head will loc faster than others. everyone goes through an awkward stage of locing in the beginning. you can use scarves, head wraps, etc., to get through those periods.

    8. your locs can be manicured, meaning, you will want to keep all fuzziness at bay by twisting your newgrowth regularly, showing evenly parted sections on your scalp. or you may want semi freeform, where you simply gently pull apart your locs after a fresh shampoo to discourage the fuzzies from matting and connecting locs. or you may want to have organic locs, in which you will let your hair do what it will do, creating spaghetti thin locs in some places, and fat ones in other areas. most people don't wear organic locs, especially if they plan to work in corporate environments. if you plan to have manicured locs, just make sure you don't overtwist them, as the constant twisting of the new growth can weaken the base of your locs and create breakage down the road. there are some people who use crochet-like hooks to keep the base of their locs from fuzzing too much. it's called latching. you can do a search for that. personally, that seems too time-consuming and unnatural. but everything isn't for everyone.

i don't know of any cons of having loced hair. as long as they are clean and clear of lint and dirt, as long as your scalp is regularly cleansed from the beginning and

I went to SEMO and had the same issue in Cape. It's very hard to find a stylist because they are very few and far between for African-Americans.

I know it may sound strange but there used to be a stylists there named Shonda and if you asked anyone who lives in Cape they'll know her. She's good for styles but not sure on growth. There used to be a beauty school there and if you can style your hair on your own, they're cheap and use pretty good products so you could always get a good shampoo and conditioner there.

How much total USD did American Women spend in beauty/Beauty Salons/ hair etc. care in a year?

What is the Grand Total in USD (American Dollar) that all women in America spend at the beauty parlor etc. on their hair, waxing etc last yearHow much total USD did American Women spend in beauty/Beauty Salons/ hair etc. care in a year?
I can not say what the national average is. I know it is in the billions, next only to diet products.

As for myself, I spend about 350.00 a month at the day spa. (Hair treatments, waxing, nails) Plus home care products that comes to another 100.00 or so a month, plus the cost of perfume (Opium 129.00 every 2 months) . The average person may not spend that much, I know my friends spend about what I do.

It is a good question, I know that we spend a lot more than we really need to.

Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?

i'm interested in a trendy asian style but i'm not sure if american salons have even done them before? i've been to plenty of salons and it's surprisingly sad to see that their stylists are very limited. it seems that most are still stuck in the 90's. (ahhHhH!) anyone have any advice about how to choose a modern, trendy salon?Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?
Sounds like you're just going to the wrong salons. It's a pretty huge generalization to assume that the few salons you've been to encapsulate the whole of American salons.

You might want to travel to the nearest big city to you; it's semi-ridiculous but if you truly are finding that hairstylists ';can't'; do your hair, then perhaps a bigger city venue might be more up-to-date with their styling and cutting methods.Trendy asian hair styles: can american salons cut it?
Well im in a simular situation but i cant find asian hair styles! I been looking for a while and all it does is lead you from one website to another to another to another till your not even on asian hairstyles your not even on hairstyles! And when i do find hairstyles that are asian there the curlyish kind, im really getting annoyed. I think my hair is the right type and im sure my solan can do it but pics of the hair style is what im missing. Im sure a solon can do your hair unless its thin also be sure if you do bring in a pic to a solon to get all sides and not just the front.

Oh and that danceing with the unicorns little prick! *Baka ka* About what you said, go to asia if you want an asian hair style this is america, Damn right its america! the country of different cultures, hairstyles, clothing, religon and much more. Ignorent HA! your the ignorent one to even comment, all you have to comment is something bad. All she is doing is wanting to find awnsers. The next time you want an awnser i hope you get a person just like you commenting.
Unfortunately, the best hair salons that can give their customers the trendiest and latest hair styles are in Japan. Yes there are many top, professional hair salons in America but their styles are not as varied and up to date as those in Japan. Perhaps you can look out for Japanese salons based there or find a hairstylist who has been trained in Japan.
Find people whose hairstyles you admire and ask them where they go for services. Chances are, even a stranger could help you out, and relax, its just hair, it grows back.
You want an Asian haircut, go to Asia. You live here (I don't give a damn whether you were born here or not), you deal with what's here. Different places are different; if you expect the U.S. to be just like someplace else, that's just plain ignorant, and I'm afriad you're out of luck. If you don't like what you find in one place, go someplace else and quit bellyaching - at least here you can go where you choose, which is more than I can say for a lot of places.

Come to think of it - maybe you should just go to Asia and STAY there - sounds like you're much too ';cool'; to stay here.

I'm not sure where you live, but call your local salons and ask them if they use the CHI straightening system. It can tend to be pricy, but it lasts for 6-9 months! It is a true straightening process that takes several hours. Our clients LOVE the results. It can be a true life changing event to get your hair permanently straightened. Good luck to you.

Why do the Tanning Salon Industry looks down upon African Americans?

LOL!! Maybe because we dont need tans, therefore we dont give them business? Why do the Tanning Salon Industry looks down upon African Americans?
    ......

Because they don't make money off non-caucasians?

Honestly, I don't think they look down on us, I don't think they give us a moments thought. Because we are not goign to use their services. It's the same relationship between speaker manufacturers and deaf people. Why do the Tanning Salon Industry looks down upon African Americans?
    WHAT????
Does the tanning salon industry really do this? I'd imagine that not too many people with enough pigment in their skins and don't need the services of a tanning salon would be a low priority to this industry? I have lighter skinned relatives and friends who have had no complaints with their tanning salon experiences. But then again, that certainly doesn't mean that such a problem wouldn't exist. I just had no idea.
Most tanning salons are for people trying to get that dark tan. Most think its weird for African Americans to go in there but what they dont know is that tanning is not just for pasty people to get some color. I know many African Americans that tan b/c it helps their skin ( acne, oily, ashy)!! Dont let it phase you!!
They don't look down on them but African Americans have dark skin so they dont need tanning.

Therefore the tanning industry doesnt get as much business from them.
I DIDN'T KNOW THEY DID?? AND SHOULDN'T IT BE ';WHY DOES THE TANNIN INDUSTRY LOOK DOWN......';??
I knew a black girl who tanned.

Understandable...usually they can't and if they do, they'll say that they can do ethnic hair. All you have to do is call and ask, they should be honest about it.

Is it true that a Vietnamese mafia controls the majority of American nail salons?

or is that a really nasty rumorIs it true that a Vietnamese mafia controls the majority of American nail salons?
It' interesting. There are all sorts of groups around the world that fund legal immigrants in America and have done so for years. When you see one race of people dominate one part of commerce like convince stores or taxis or construction, you can bet that the money is coming from somewhere else. We have been infiltrated by people from other countries. It's really unfair to get help from organizations that in turn get money from their government to help set up business's in America. Over time they can gain influence and power and bring more people here. It's like the Trojan horse thing but done over time. They bring their own agendas with them and it's not to make America a better place. Is it true that a Vietnamese mafia controls the majority of American nail salons?

Afro American Hair Salons in Germany?

    Hello,

I will be relocating to Germany and would be in need of a good black hair salon. A reputable one that takes care of the hair and does not just give me a style. I have close to shouldre lenght natural (no relaxor) hair. I usually wear it in double strand twist w/o weave. I don't prefer weave because it tends to cause more damage to my hair. Can anyone help please. I will be located in the Schweinfurt area, but will travel.

ThanksAfro American Hair Salons in Germany?
I am in Germany currently and contemplating a move here. The previous poster is pulling your leg, I think.

However, what does seem to be true is that there aren't very many places to get your hair done, here. Further there aren't many stores that offer boutique brand hair supplies (i.e. Curls, Carol's Daughter, Myhoneychild, etc.) and the products that I have seen aren't quality (i.e. they have petroleum etc. in them). I haven't seen many healthy heads of relaxed hair and besides braids, I haven't seen anyone other than myself wearing natural styles.

I think its telling that most of the ';afro'; salons have weave in the windows or their websites have pictures of white ladies getting extensions. If you are adventurous, you might try inquiring about the US military bases or in the larger cities. IF you are really willing to travel, I would suggest a plane trip to London. There are lots of salons there, I hear.

How will my results be for African American hair getting a blowout at a Dominican salon?

I'm African American, with 4a/b type hair. I've heard good and bad things about the Dominican salons, but I want to give it a try cuz my homie's mom is Rican and told me they'd hook me up. Her hair texture is a bit less kinky than mine, but she relaxes her hair like I do, so it's not that different. I'm concerned about the heat though as my hair is prone to breakage from overprocessing, heat styling, and I sometimes sweat in my scalp with causes frizzies and dryness. I've decided to wait to go until my hair is back at it's healthy, uniform length (almost chin length).

Do you think I'll have any problems? Should I have them just blow dry the roots cuz of my breakage issues? Should I bring my own products?

I still plan to go to my regular stylist for relaxers, but I just want to stretch the time in between them because it only takes about 4 weeks for my new growth to be visible. From what I've read, I must insist that they moisturize and condition my hair prior to my roller set. I also read that some kind of heat protectant should be used prior to the blowout process. Any other ideas and suggestions would be appreciated. How will my results be for African American hair getting a blowout at a Dominican salon?
I have heard they can get hair super straight but I have heard many people experienced hair damage becuase of the high levels of heat many Dominicans use. if your hair is prone to breakage I would not go, but it's up to you. Every salon will be different, I have also hear many of them have a prejudice against Blacks, like they will talk about you in Spanish. I'm just telling you what I have heard. You can straighten your hair yourself. I am natural now but when I used to straighten my hair this routine was good:

(before any heat put a heat protection product in to put a layer between you and the heat and don't do this every day or every week)

YOU WILL NEED: Plastic cap/plastic bag, blow dryer, medium sized rollers, portable hair dryer, professional straightener, deep treatment conditioner, moisturizing shampoo, leave in conditioner, protein treatment, heat protectant product, wrap lotion. Whew~!

    1. Shampoo hair with moisturizing shampoo.

    2. Apply a protein treatment like Aphogee 2 Step. You should be doing a protein treatment regularly if you have relaxed hair. Relaxed hair=damaged hair. Especially if you straighten regualrly. Definitely do one before you go to any Dominican salon. Protein products do not ';heal'; hair but they coat hair and fill in crack temp, which stops breakage. Wash out after 15 minutes or so.

    3. After the protein treatment of choice, put deep conditioner in hair and put plastic cap/plastic bag over hair. Sit under a dryer for no less than 15 minutes. I do it for 45 minutes.

    4. Rinse out product and use a good leave in conditioner and spray hair liberally with a heat protectant. I like Tresemme.

    5. Next, roll hair on medium sized rollers with a wrap lotion.

    6. Then sit under dryer/heater until hair is about 70% dry.

    7. Remove rollers and blow dry the hair with a round brush section by section. Apply more heat protectant.

    8. Finally go over hair with a straightener lightly for shine. And you're done.

Also you don't have to straighten to have a ';hair spa day';. Take a day once a month to deep condition and do a protein treatment on your hair. Also you know you can stretch hair relaxers for months right? I personally love embracing my hair texture (4AB) but even if you keep relaxing def. educate yourself about your hair. You sound like you know some already and that's a good thing. Too many of us are letting hair stylists damage our hair becuase we don't know anything about it. I highly recommend http://longhaircareforum.com for you. Best of luck. How will my results be for African American hair getting a blowout at a Dominican salon?
    Well Juanita,

I understand your apprehension, and for good concern. It's ok to get your hair wash, set and blown out once and a while but consider logic...heat AND tensions should never be a regualr. If you want to stretch ur salon visits out ( I understand what you mean b/c often time Domincian owned salons charge less) do a wash, set and blow every other week. The other weeks, only get roller sets and wraps.

Bring your own products. You are going to need something good for heat styling. Perhaps Mizani, Keracare, Design Essentials, Nexxus, etc.

    Hope this helps

Switzerland has a high concentration of international populace, so you won't be the only person! A Swiss hair-dresser should be able to take care of your hair without any trouble, I would think. Geneva has more places to eat than New York City, Switzerland has a high level of un-native people, and it's an enormous city, so finding a salon there wouldn't be too much trouble.

I go to urban textures. They have two salons- Gerrard West 416 977 4247 (ask for Tanika she's wicked!) or one in Scarborough- Milner Ave 416 292 1666. I recently moved to T.O and this was one of the first things I sorted out! Hope this helps.

  • How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

I really want to become an expert at caring for my hair. I am seeing a stylist, but I really want to cut her loose. She is loud, gossipy and often says things that are inappropriate. However, I feel obligated to go to her because she has given me a certain cut, that only she would know how to maintain.

Also, she keep recommending products for me to buy that do nothing for my hair. She accuses me of using heat in my hair everyday, which I don't. I only use heat when I wash my hair (1x a week). Then she keeps whining that if I saw her every 2 weeks, my hair would look better. I'm sorry, I do not have that type of money.

I am really tired of her and all I want to do is find some great products that will improve the condition of my hair while I am looking for a new stylist.

Please help me!How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?
In between your salon visits, there are several things you can do to improve your hair and keep it healthy.

    1. Make sure to deep condition at least every other week. You can also deep condition weekly alternating with a moisturizing deep conditioning treatment and a protein conditioning treatment (always follow up the protein treatment with a moisturizing conditioner).

    2. Try to avoid heat as much as you can. You say that you use heat once a week. In what capacity? Is it just blow-drying or flat ironing or both? You can learn how to do roller sets which are a really healthy option for relaxed hair. You can also do other heat-free styles such as braid outs in which you braid your hair while it's wet and then take it down when it's dry for a nice wavy look. You can also just wash your hair and wear it in a bun for a few days. Develop various heat-free styles to eliminate some of the heat on your hair. Go for using heat maybe every two weeks.

    3. Make sure you're keeping your ends trimmed. So if you're going to the salon every 2 months, get your ends trimmed then. Or learn to trim your own hair. You said you have a certain style that only your stylist can maintain. Not sure if you're planning to grow that out or not but it's difficult to do your own hair if it's in a difficult style. So, you'll have to decide if you want to grow it out.

    4. Make sure you're using good products for your hair. Are you paying attention to how your hair feels when you do your own hair? Are you using good shampoos, conditioners, and styling products? Keracare has a great line for relaxed hair (as well as natural hair).

    5. Take good care of your hair at night by keeping it covered with a satin scarf and moisturizing your ends every single night. This will help keep your hair from getting tangled and getting dry leading to split ends.

    6. Watch your hair when you're outside. Pin it up if it's windy so the wind won't dry it out. Keep it off your wool fabrics in the winter.

    7. Make sure you're using the right tools on your hair. Use seamless combs like bone combs which you can find online. Sally Beauty Supply also has some bone combs. Only use a soft brush like a boar's bristle brush or even a baby brush. (Never brush your hair while it's wet.) Use an ionic blow dryer and a ceramic flat iron or curling iron for heat styling.

I hope these help! Good luck! How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?
i had a stylist just like that my stylist used to complain about how dry my hair was, and how brittle it was all the time. i stopped going there. i wasn't paying her to complain.

you should also find another stylist to do your hair

limit the amount of relaxers you get done. take better care of your hair. i recommend the organic root stimulator line especially the olive oil lotion, hair mayonaise, and the repleninshing pack. they make my hair really soft and helathy looking.

    http://www.organicrootstimulator.com/

also go to this website they talk about all kinds of black hair issues.

    http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/

    hope this helps.
Use a cholesterol treatment on your hair. This provides the nutrients that your hair looses when you use chemicals. It also moisturizes your scalp and hair. Also get a good conditioner to use every time you shampoo. If your hair is in really bad shape, you can choose a leave in conditioner. If you are not satisfied with your girl, let her go. I am sure you can find someone even better to take care of your hair. Good luck!!
What you do is go to a beauty supply store. You get an ion condidtioning packet and apply it to wet hair. Leave it in for a few and then blow dry your hair. Hope I Could Help!
My stylist does the same thing- accuses me of using a straightener every day, soo annoying.

Do you deep condition? I really don't know what to tell you :( sorry but good luck!
Do you moisturize your hair? If not, you should try the Olive Oil brand hair lotion or their hair moisturizer/hair leave-in conditioner. You want to put a little bit on everyday to keep your hair soft.

Hi. Visit http://www.squidoo.com/black-hair-salon to find a black hair stylist in your area. What are some salons that specialize in african american hair in far north dallas or plano or richardson?
You definitely need to check out the Lakewood Salon (NE corner of Mockingbird and Abrams) and ask for Dionne Alexander. She does miracles with hair, best I've seen anywhere. She does perms, natural, weaves, braiding, wigs, you name it. She's a little pricey, but she's very experienced. She actually used to do hairs for celebrities and it ain't no bull either. Give her a try, you will be going back for more.

Question for african american girls who go to the salon?

when you go to a dominican hair salon do you get a complete blowout or do you only get the roots done. i ask this because i have been going to a dominican hair stylist for 4 years now and i have recently started getting only my roots done but i just wanted to know if i should continue getting only roots blow dried or should i get a blow out completely. and has anyone had any breakage or damage from going to a dominican hair salon.Question for african american girls who go to the salon?
WELL YOU'VE BEEN GOING FOR FOUR YEARS AND IF YOU ARE SEEING BREAKAGE THEN YOUR SHOULD JUST GET YOUR ROOTS!

BUT IF YOUR HAIR ISNT BREAKING AND ITS GROWING THEN GET THE BLOW OUTS 3 TIMES A MONTH AND ONE WEEK YOU SHOULD JUST GET YOUR ROOTS!

Good hair salon that caters to African-American hair in Tampa Bay Area?

I need to know of a salon in the Tampa Bay Area preferably around South Tampa (but for good hair care I am willing to travel). Somewhere that's not to spendy. I want to get a relaxer put in and it, of course, styled well. My hair has been breaking off like crazy would also be preferable due to a previous disaster with a relaxer so I need to go somewhere that has a good reputation with it and does a great job. The hairstylist of course should know what I need to get done to my hair to help repair the severe damage and get it back to healthy.Good hair salon that caters to African-American hair in Tampa Bay Area?

There are a ton of beauty supply stores in my far north Dallas neighborhood (Bent Tree area) that carry ethnic hair products but I don't know of any salons other than hearing that Kelvin Walthall has a salon in the area. He's better known for his salon on Elm Street in Deep Ellum.

Are there any salons in the Portland, OR area that specializes or has experience with African American hair?

I've gone to too many general salons that couldn't properly treat my hair. I've made more progress doing my hair on my own than going to a salon. I would really like to get my hair properly taken care of and get some tips from a stylist with actual experience with African American hair.

I would prefer a salon in Vancouver, WA area but I'll go to whatever salon has the best experience. Are there any salons in the Portland, OR area that specializes or has experience with African American hair?
There are A LOT of them in the NE Portland area. One of my favorites is next door to a Mexican restaurant, across the street from Albertsons on 60th and Prescott.

There also used to be a really popular spot on Martin Luther King and Dekum, I think that one might have closed down by now.

I'm going to guess that the more expensive and trendier spots are on Alberta, and then you'll find a lot of other salons on Martin Luther King. Are there any salons in the Portland, OR area that specializes or has experience with African American hair?
I would go check out NE Alberta St in Portland. Maybe park along 15th %26amp; Alberta and walk up. I think there is a place up there though I don't have a name for you.

I have a bi-racial 6 year old girl,white/african american, I need help on finding a salon that does this type.

First of course what type of hair does she have, not even all African American, and certainly not all White people have the same hair type.

but in licenced salons, all of the beauty people are suppose to work on all hair types prior to being licenced.

But in general, if some places specialise in the type of hair, go and talk with them. If her hair is more african american then go to those salons that specialise in that type hair, if white, that type of salon.I have a bi-racial 6 year old girl,white/african american, I need help on finding a salon that does this type.
first off what city/state are you in and you can be better directed.

Since your asking this question I am taking it that her hair is thick/curly, and unlike anyone in your families. It depends, if you want to ';straigten'; her hair so that it is more managable I would advise you not to chemically treat her hair and go to a Salon that specializes in African American hair so that she can get it pressed. You may also consider braiding which is as low maintanace for you as it gets.

Please don't let people convince you that people are all the same etc etc the diffrences make us all beautiful. There are diffrences in hair due to our Ethnic backgrounds, I have seen bi-racial children with horrible hair styles because of lack of knowledge of certain types of ';curly'; hair.

If you are in the New York area I would try this website www.missjessies.comI have a bi-racial 6 year old girl,white/african american, I need help on finding a salon that does this type.
i think ne salon can do hair like that becuz i have a friend and hse is bi-racial and she gets her hair done @ ne salon. i meen a salon cant just not do ur hair cuz ur black or bi-racial.
Most stylists do just about every hair type, I have quite a few bi-racial clients, but the school I went to trains students to do every type of hair, I guess it depends where you are. Here in Canada, the beauty school curriculum requires experience on all hair types.
what area? I'm in NY. feel free to email me classy_in_new_york@yahoo.com.
what type of hair is it? Loose curls, straight, wavy??
well, to tell you the truth, take her to any black salon, and they will know what to do to her hair, but you need to learn how to take care of her hair also. A few tips, remember her hair is nothing like yours, you can't wash it everyday, maybe every other day. Also you have to put grease on it, like Castro oil or any kind. We also have black beauty supply stores, you wanna buy a shampoo and conditioner that moisturizes her hair, Like Creme of Nature brand, you can buy those at wal-mart if you want, it is in a yellow and red bottle, no shampoos with alcohol like pantene unless you buy the kind in the brown bottle for black people's hair, alcohol will make her hair frizzy. Just make sure you rub the grease all on her hair it will seem a little slimy, but it will keep the frizz out of it, you can let her hair air dry, but rub grease on it all the way to the ends. Hope this helps if you have any more questions send me an e-mail

Well I know that the African American hair salon that I go to uses GREAT products.

For shampoo and conditioner, they use BioSilk shampoo and conditioner. (that's good stuff LOL). When flat ironing, or before blow drying they use Fantasia Frizz Buster Straightening Creme. After flat ironing, they use BioSilk Silk Therapy Leave-in Conditioner to add that extra bounce and silkiness. If I go for a touch up, they use Luster's Pink Conditioning No-Lye Relaxer. I don't go to the salon that much, but when I do, my hair comes out looking so nice.

Any African American Hair Salons in Rota, Spain or nearby??

I will be moving to Rota, Spain per military and was wondering were there any african american hair salons out there??? If no salons, any beauty supply stores?? I have really been worried about this??Any African American Hair Salons in Rota, Spain or nearby??
I totally understand where you are coming from. I was in Seville, Spain for 8 mos last year and was wondering what I was going to do with my relaxed hair. Luckily, I stumbled across an African/ African-American beauty supply in the neighborhood I lived in which sold black hair products including relaxer kits (the same ones you'd find here). Because I don't trust just anyone doing my hair, I relaxed it myself. I also looked in the local phonebook out of curiosity and found a couple black/african salons. You could probably do the same in Rota. Also, if you see other local black women in town ask them (';Me perdona, sabe donde se vende productos para pelo 'n e g r o' (I spaced it like that b/c yahoo deems the spanish word for ';black'; as offensive) o africano?';).

Hope that helps.Any African American Hair Salons in Rota, Spain or nearby??
it doesn't make sense that you call Africans Americans to the black people of Spain, they are Europeans or Africans. in Spain call someone black don't make you racist.
I don't know the area, so I can't help specifically. But in other Spanish cities that I have lived and visited, I don't recall seeing specific african-american hair salons. My suggestion is to do a could of things: walk around town and see what sort of salons there are, you might find one! Rota is in the south where there are more africans than in the north. 2. If you find a salon you like, go in and ask the manager if they have experience working with your hair type. 3. Ask someone on the base for a recommendation. I'm sure there are others with your hair type/style that might be able to tell you where they get their hair done. I've included a link to the name of some hair salons in Rota from the spanish yellow pages.

Good luck, enjoy Spain and thank you for serving.

And I know for sure naturallycurly.com has a salon section where hair stylists know how to style and take care of kinky hair. You can search by city.

And of course there is always a phone book.

I am AFro American looking for a salon in Singapore to relax my hair. Help?

I love curly hair...why not go for a product that will work with the climate?I am AFro American looking for a salon in Singapore to relax my hair. Help?
Hey sister! Unless you know of, heard of, word of mouth and good results from someone there in Singapore on a great salon, then I would relax my hair myself. When it comes to your hair, well that's the most important outer layer on a female, is her hair. You don't want some foreigner messing it up, then where would you be.

There are tons of recipes out there that you can make up yourself and get some fantastic results. Do the natural and organic and safe way to treat your hair. Molasses is wonderful on dark hair. It's sticky and gooey and a mess to use, but the final results are WOW! It'll leave your hair smooth and soft and shiny. Honey works out very well on lighter hair and gives the same results.

You could also try olive oil, heated and applied to your hair. That helps the frizzies and the ends of your hair, and will relax it a bit.

Here are some sites I've found, hopefully they'll be able to assist you further.

And, regarding your hair, well ';it's for your hands only,'; or you could be walking out looking like one of those sumo wrestlers. Not a pretty site!I am AFro American looking for a salon in Singapore to relax my hair. Help?
You may be better off with an at home kit! Seriously, make your own mistakes... Uh, uhn!

Not just anyone can be trusted with your hair
girl you better find a wal-mart (Dark and Lovely) and try to do that one yourself you dont want no scalp burn

Are there any American owned and operated professional nail salons in SE Portland that are not too expensive?

I have nothing against Asian nail technicians, they are almost always polite, friendly and fair priced but I have always had difficulties getting the results I want from their nail services. Most of the time it is hard for us to understand each other and I come away dissatisfied. I am continuously looking for a better nail salon but it seems the only reasonably priced ones are run by Asians. I am just looking for a good quality wrapped nail that will cover my natural nail and make it stronger, not longer. Any help would be appreciated. No rude, unhelpful answers please. Are there any American owned and operated professional nail salons in SE Portland that are not too expensive?
hope you find one... try salon.comAre there any American owned and operated professional nail salons in SE Portland that are not too expensive?
Akasu is the only salon I ever go to anymore. They are amazing at everything. Nails are around $20. It's not in SE, it's actually right by the Rose Garden, but definitely the best place in town. Here's the website: www.akasusalon.com
if u want good quality and professional result then u have to pay for it. it doesnt come cheap

as u said the cheap ones r owned by Asians. isnt time u pay more to get what u want (satisfaction)?

  • Does anyone know of a good salon in Wichita Fall, Tx. for african american hair?

i have no idea but i am so sorry that you have to live there. I have visited and it is HORRIBLE!!!! Good luck finding somewhere to get your hair done!!!!

I have natural african american hair, can i go to a dominican hair salon to get my hair done?

What are you getting done to your hair? But, yes that is a good idea because they have the most experience with ethnic hair. In hair school, they teach everyone how to work with ALL hair types but honestly, it is best if you go to someone who has experience working with your hair type all the time.I have natural african american hair, can i go to a dominican hair salon to get my hair done?
Yes, sure!I have natural african american hair, can i go to a dominican hair salon to get my hair done?
I would think so. Usually the hair types are the same if not very similar to African Americans considering many Dominicans are of some African decent.
Yes you can. They are pretty good for blowdrying hair straight and leave it light and bouncy.
    Sure ! Go for it!
find out if they have black clients, and if so see what their hair looks like.

Some stylist take pictures of their dos. Ask if they have any.

Great Hair Salon for African American Women in South Bay CA?

Me and my wife have been trying to find a good place to have her hair done and cant seem to find any that can do an african american womans hair that well. We have tried a few places that people recomended and still not gotten even good results. The weaves she has gotten they always mess up either puting them in or cutting them in a way she does not like. Are there any great places out there or people that work at a salon (and not out of their home) that anyone knows of?

The phone is not really an option because it does not specify that they do african american womens hair. Any recomendation for an upper scale not trashy place that can do great hair for african american women will be greatly appreciated. :)Great Hair Salon for African American Women in South Bay CA?

    What were the results?

    How much did you pay?

Would you rather go to a dominican salon or african american salon?

If your in the conyers, ga area.

how much do they charge?[[African American Ladies]] Dominican hair salon?
Yea, I've been to the dominicans before. They do a pretty good job. The relaxer was done very well where i dodnt have to get another one until later than usual. I think I paid like 40. With out the blowout they just set your hair with roller like usual and take it down so it looks curly then you can have them wrap it for you (i do mine without pins).

I prefer the dominican salons if im strapped for cash but ultimately the african american salons know that there are certain things you cant do to a black person's hair ex: brushing it while wet? using a super hot blow dryer and then a curling iron, certain haircuts and colors....so i prefer the african-americans for that reason[[African American Ladies]] Dominican hair salon?
when i had longer hair i would get it relaxed by Dominicans and it would come out good i didn't have any complaints but i only lets certain people in the salon who i knew were good do my hair.

I've gotten a wash and set without a blow out and it came out good i usually have them wrap it after the set if i don't want it blown out

i go to an African American salon now because i have my hair cut in a pixie style like Rihanna has it now only the back is shorter ... when i first got it the Dominicans cut it and i didn't like the way that they cut it so i started going to the African American salon

Dominican stylist/salon for African American hair.?

Hi I would like to have my hair relaxed (touchup) and am having finding an affordable stylist I trust. Can anyone recommend a good salon/stylist in Manhattan/Harlem for a relaxer (touchup) for African American hair? Please give me as much detail as possible. salon, stylist, address, phone, price.

Thanks a bunch!Dominican stylist/salon for African American hair.?
I wish I could help but have never in my life had a positive hair salon experience and cannot recommend a good stylist for you. The only thing I can tell you is not to have so much faith in Dominican salons because they aren't ALWAYS the best and I think by specifying that they must be ';Dominican';, you are limiting yourself from other stylists that may be as good if not better than the Dominican ones. I'm 18 and have only went to get my hair done in a salon once in my life. My mom usually does my hair and I'm generally satisfied with the results but decided that it would be a great experience to go to a salon for once and get my hair done by a professional. I couldn't have been more wrong. I went to a Dominican place recommended to me by a cousin to get a touchup and in the middle of applying the relaxer to my hair, the hairstylist stopped to talk to her friend. When I told her my scalp was burning, she just sprayed some hair spray on my head and continued to take her time. She finally washed the relaxer out of my hair a whole hour later! Afterwards, she unevenly trimmed the ends of my hair and blew my hair out until it started to make smoke. My mother and I were horrified! While the hairstyle I got was nice and straight, the damage it caused to my hair is something I have to cope with to this day. So please don't make the same mistake I did and assume that Dominican hair salons are superior to others.Dominican stylist/salon for African American hair.?
